  Rapiscan ICT 1500

The Rapiscan ICT 1500 system is a high-performance mid-sized CT system, which employs linear accelerator X-ray sources from 2 MV to 9 MV. The Department of Energy uses a 9-MV ICT 1500 to inspect nuclear weapons during quality assurance and dismantling activities. Ford Motor Company will use a 9-MV ICT 1500 to reduce teardown time on components, optimize manufacturing processes, improve quality, and perform reverse engineering of automotive components.

The ICT 1500 system, shown above, is a 9-MV system at Hill AFB used by the Air Force to inspect missiles. This system can inspect objects up to 1500 mm in diameter and 2800 mm in height weighing up to 10 tons. Features of this ICT 1500 system are listed in below.

An automobile exhaust manifold was inspected with this ICT 1500 system. A 3-D digital model was developed from the CT data. The resolution in the 3-D image is sufficient to clearly see the part number and manufacturing site embossed on the part. This example demonstrates the capability of CT technology to produce accurate digital models with detailed external and internal features.
