Solid Rocket Motor Crack

The Rapiscan ICT 2500 is the largest CT system in the world. The system, which is located at Hill AFB, Utah, is used by the Air Force to inspect solid rocket motors and detect aging-related anomalies. It can inspect objects up to 2.5m (8-ft) in diameter, 8.6m (28-ft) long, and weighing up to 60 tons. The ICT 2500 uses a 15 MV linear accelerator X-ray source to penetrate objects of this size. Note the easily discernible crack extending from the bore of a test motor. This crack was not detected in a radiographic examination of the motor.
